Vatican: Contraceptive Pills Pollute Environment, Harm Male Fertility

Vatican, the central authority of the Roman Catholic Church which is strongly against birth control, renewed its attack on contraceptive pill:

VATICAN CITY (AFP) — The contraceptive pill is polluting the environment and is in part responsible for male infertility, a report in the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano said Saturday.

The pill "has for some years had devastating effects on the environment by releasing tonnes of hormones into nature" through female urine, said Pedro Jose Maria Simon Castellvi, president of the International Federation of Catholic Medical Associations, in the report.

"We have sufficient evidence to state that a non-negligible cause of male infertility in the West is the environmental pollution caused by the pill," he said, without elaborating further.

Vatican's claim was immediately refused by some Italian pharmacological associations:

"Once metabolised, the hormones contained in oral contraceptives no longer have any of the characteristic effects of feminine hormones," said Gianbenedetto Melis, vice-president of a contraceptive research association, quoted by the ANSA news agency.

The hormones contained in the pill such as oestrogen "are present everywhere... in plastic, in disinfectants, in meat that we eat," added Flavia Franconi, of the Society of Italian Pharmacology.

Interestingly, A Tel Aviv University study in 2008 found that for women who do want a baby but are finding it difficult to conceive, the contraceptive may help them to get pregnant.

Virgin Mary, a 20-year-old Peruvian woman, gave birth to a baby boy on Christmas day and named him Jesus, Peru's state news agency said on Friday.

"Two thousand years later the story of Bethlehem is relived," read the headline about the birth in El Comercio, the main newspaper in Peru, a predominantly Catholic country.

The mother, Virgen Maria Huarcaya, delivered the 7.7 pound (3.5 kg) boy, Jesus Emanuel, in the early hours of Christmas at the central maternity hospital in Lima, the capital.

The baby's father, Adolfo Jorge Huamani, 24, is a carpenter. Religious Peruvians compared him to Joseph the Carpenter in the Bible. [Reuters]

Islam Overtakes Roman Catholicism As the World's Largest Religion

Islam has surpassed Roman Catholicism as the world's largest religion, Reuters cited Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano as reporting.

Islam has overtaken Roman Catholicism as the biggest single religious denomination in the world, the Vatican said on Sunday.

Monsignor Vittorio Formenti, who compiled the Vatican's newly-released 2008 yearbook of statistics, said Muslims made up 19.2 percent of the world's population and Catholics 17.4 percent.

"For the first time in history we are no longer at the top: the Muslims have overtaken us," Formenti told Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano in an interview, saying the data referred to 2006.

He said that if all Christian groups were considered, including Orthodox churches, Anglicans and Protestants, then Christians made up 33 percent of the world's population -- or about 2 billion people.

The Vatican recently put the number of Catholics in the world at 1.13 billion people. It did not provide a figure for Muslims, generally estimated at around 1.3 billion.

Formenti said that while the number of Catholics as a proportion of the world's population was fairly stable, the percentage of Muslims was growing because of higher birth rates.

Chihuahua Conan is a pet dog raised by chief priest Joei Yoshikuni at the Japanese Zen temple Shuri-Kannondo in Okinawa islands. Conan has now become a celebrity in Japan because this unique canine can 'pray' before the altar by mimicing its master!

The path to inner peace is long and arduous. But sitting on his hind legs, paws raised in reverence before the altar, this enlightened canine may just have discovered the key.

Against a backdrop of swirling incense and solemn chanting, the one-and-a-half-year-old, black-and-white Chihuahua cuts a cheerfully unlikely figure, as he loyally mimics his proud master during morning prayers at the Shuri Kannondo temple in southern Japan.

The devoted animal, known as Conan, hasn't just secured inner harmony for himself, either. His presence at daily prayers has also made headlines across Japan, helping to swell visitor numbers to the Zen Buddhist temple by more than 30 per cent – thereby putting worshippers on their own path to enlightenment.

Conan, originally a temple pet, rises without prompting before his morning and evening meals to go through his prayer routine at the temple in Naha, capital of Okinawa. When his master chants his prayers, known as "sutras", Conan raises his paws and joins them at the tip of his nose.

"It's so funny that he does it," says Kazuko Oshiro, 71, who has frequented the temple for more than 25 years. "He gets angry when somebody else sits on his favourite spot. He must be thinking that it's his special place."

When asked the secret of the dog's devotion, Yoshikuni reveals: "Clasping hands is a basic action of Buddhist prayer to show appreciation. He may be showing his thanks for treats and walks."

Mohammed al-Rashidi, 11, Marries 10-year-old Cousin in Saubi Arab

The child marriage is probably banned by most of countries on the plantet, but apparently not in the ultra-conservative Muslim kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Mohammed al-Rashidi, an 11-year-old Saudi boy, has just married 10-year-old cousin! #_#

Mohammed al-Rashidi and his unidentified cousin will seal the marriage they contracted under the sharia laws of Islam and move in together after a ceremony to take place in the summer, Al-Shams newspaper said.

"I am ready for this marriage. It will help me study better," Mohammed, who goes to primary school in the northern province of Hail, was quoted as saying by Al-Shams.

"I invite all my classmates to do like me," the boy said, adding that he wanted to "crown a love story through marriage".

The schoolboy's father, Muraizak al-Rashidi, told the newspaper he was busy sending out invitations for a summer celebration to seal the marriage.

Dahim al-Jaber, the headmaster at Mohammed's school, said marriage at such a young age was "inappropriate" but wished the couple a happy life together.

Not to blame the little couple as they are so young and illerate, their parents should definitely know what the INBREEDING is!

Tiffany Johnson & Philip Crouse Shot Dead in Arvada Church Shooting

       

Tiffany Johnson (picture left) and Philip Crouse (picture right) had their lives cut short when a cold-blooded gunman opened fires at the Youth With a Mission (YWAM) Arvada missionary centre in Denver, Colorado.

Tiffany Johnson, 26,  and Philip Crouse, 24, from Alaska both, served as staff members at the YWAW Arvada campus.

Johnson's boyfriend, 24-year-old Dan Griebenow of South Dakota, is in critical condition after being shot in the neck.

Johnson grew up in the Iron Range town of Chisholm and graduated from high school in nearby Hibbing in 1999. She earned an associate degree from Anoka Community College, then worked as a nanny before joining Youth With a Mission.

When serving in the missionary, Tiffany Johnson, Head of Hospitality for YWAM Denver, had traveled to Egypt, Libya and South Africa.

It always make us feel very sadden whenever we heard someone who lost the life for the God. Our thoughts and most sincere condolence go to those victims' family, friends and all those who are concerned their lifes.

Colorado Twin Church/Missionary Shootings Killed Five

A black-clad gunman holed at the Youth With a Mission missionary training center in Arvada of Colorado at about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday (Dec 9), after being told he couldn't spend the night there. Two of the center's staff members were killed, and two others wounded.

Eleven hours later, a gunman fitting a similar description opened fire at the New Life Church (which was founded by Rev. Ted Haggard) in Colorado Springs, about 70 miles away, killing two worshipers and wounding at least four others.

A security guard shot and killed the gunman in the second shooting about 1 p.m., ending the rampage before he killed others.

Gillian Gibbons, aka Muhammad Teddy Teacher, Arrested in Sudan

Gillian Gibbons, a talented and able school teacher teaching in Sudan, has been arrested by the Sudanese authorities. The British schoolteacher is accused of insulting Islam's Prophet, after she allowed her six and seven-year-olds pupils to name a teddy bear Muhammad. While Ms Gibbons has no any means to insult Islam, she could still be up to six months in jail, 40 lashes or a fine. :-( Such charge seems very ridiculous!
Update: Ms Gillian Gibbons was sentenced November 29 to 15 days in prison and deportation. However, the sentence seemed still not enough to appease Sudanese Muslims hardliners who staged a demonstraton to demand the British teddy bear teacher's Execution. Mozambique Archbishop Francisco Chimoio Claims European-made Condoms Infected with HIV Deliberately

Nonsense, absolute nonsense! To my very own viewpoint, the condom is the only best way to protect one from infecting HIV/AIDS. Can't understand why the Catholic Church formally opposes any use of condoms by advising fidelity within marriage or sexual abstinence.  It's very regrettable to hear what Mozambique Maputo Archbishop Francisco Chimoio said. Archbishop Chimoio told our [BBC] reporter that abstention, not condoms, was the best way to fight HIV/Aids.

"Condoms are not sure because I know that there are two countries in Europe, they are making condoms with the virus on purpose," he alleged, refusing to name the countries.

"They want to finish with the African people. This is the programme. They want to colonise until up to now. If we are not careful we will finish in one century's time."

It's ridiculous that a well-respected archbishop made such stupid baseless claims. Sigh!
