Jim Leyritz's DUI Car Crash! Jim Leyritz (mugshot left), a former New York Yankee star was charged with manslaughter driving while intoxicated charges after a fatal crash in the wee hours of Friday on December 28. Leyritz was arrested in Fort Lauderdale of Florida after he collided his 2006 Ford Expedition with Fredia Ann Veitch's 2000 Mitsubishi Motero in the city's bar area at around 3:30am. The female driver Ann Veitch (picture below) who is 30-year-old mother of two was seriously injured on the spot after ejecting from her car and later died at Broward General Medical Center.
Jim Leyritz posted the US$11,000 bond and was released from Broward County jail.
Witnesses told police Leyritz had a red light. Officers on the scene observed Leyritz to have red, watery eyes, a flushed face and an odour of alcohol, click here to read Broward County Sheriff's Office report.
Leyritz, who also faces a property damage charge, faces up to 15 years in prison and a 10,000-dollar fine if convicted of vehicular homicide, a second degree felony in Florida.
