PARIS -- A leaked French intelligence document raises the possibility Osama bin Laden died of typhoid, but President Jacques Chirac said Saturday the report was "in no way whatsoever confirmed" and officials from Kabul to Washington expressed skepticism about its accuracy.
There have been numerous reports over the years that bin Laden had been killed or that he was dangerously ill, but the al-Qaida leader has periodically released audiotapes appealing to followers and commenting on current news events.

The Kumar's at the bee business

Thrissur: A swarm of bees will frighten most of us away, but for Ajay Kumar and his brother Sajay rearing bees is part and parcel of their lives.
Their children Rani, Honey, Nectar and Nature, in managing their business, help the two brothers.
The names of the children suggest their parent’s love for the profession. And not surprisingly, they too seem to be quite popular around the workplace.
Bee stings can be deadly and take up to three days to heal, but for the children, thousands of bees swarming all over them is just their idea of fun.

Brazil's ad men face billboard ban

In the chaotic urban sprawl of Brazil's biggest city, the impact of advertising is impossible to ignore.
Massive billboards and skyscraper-sized hoardings line the streets of Sao Paulo, flaunting their wares at motorists caught in the city's ever-present traffic jams.
The choice of products on display sometimes bears witness to the uninhibited nature of Brazilian society.
A remarkable number of ads feature giant images of men and women dressed only in their underwear, while the Brazilian edition of Playboy is publicised with huge posters and cut-outs of the latest centrefold models.
It all adds to the sensory overload of a city that many see as South America's version of the hi-tech cityscape portrayed in the film Blade Runner.

Beer craze: Oktoberfest begins in Munich

Munich, Sept 17: Munich has opened its doors to thousands of beer drinking merrymakers on Saturday (September 16) as the world`s biggest folk festival, the Oktoberfest, got under way in celebrations which this year last two days longer than usual. Germans, in party mood after the World Cup and cheered by a pickup in the economy, have 18 days to consume millions of litres of beer and hundreds of thousands of sausages as the festival has been extended to include Oct. 3`s public holiday. Munich Mayor Christian Ude broke open the first keg at midday and declared the 173rd festival open with the words "O`zapft is", or "the barrel is tapped". That was the cue for the oompah bands to start up and armies of buxom waitresses to begin serving litres ("Mass") of beer to the 100,000 thirsty guests squashed around long wooden tables in the 14 heaving beer tents. Merrymakers last year downed 6.1 million litres of beer and devoured 479,610 roast chickens and 55,913 knuckles of pork. Giant brezels and gingerbread hearts are also on sale. More than six million visitors are expected to attend this year`s 18-day long event.
