Most Polluted Cities in USA

The American Lung Association has issued its ninth State of the Air (2008) report on May Day. The lists below show this year's top ten Most Polluted Cities in USA in three different categories. For the first time ever, a city outside California, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, becomes the most polluted city by short-term particle pollution. It seemed Los Angeles is not an ideal city for living, as it is the city most polluted by year-round partical pollution and also the city most polluted by by ozone.

Top Ten U.S. Cities Most Polluted by Short-Term Particle Pollution: 1) Pittsburgh, Pa.; 2) Los Angeles/Long Beach/Riverside, Calif.; 3) Fresno/Madera, Calif.; 4) Bakersfield, Calif.; 5) Birmingham, Ala.; 6) Logan, Utah 7) Salt Lake City, Utah ; 8) Sacramento, Calif.; 9) Detroit, Mich.; 10) Baltimore, Md./Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia.
